Planning, engineering, and architecture services for the Nallur Kandhaswamy Kovil & Shivan Kovi Hindu Temple Planning, engineering, and architecture services for the Nallur Kandhaswamy Kovil & Shivan Kovi Hindu Temple The proposed Nallur Kandhaswamy Kovil & Shivan Kovil Hindu Temple will be located on a 5.4-acre parcel at the northwest corner of the intersection of Neilson and Morningside Roads in the Morningside Heights area of Scarborough. A three storey medical building with a retail plaza and pharmacy on the ground level is planned adjacent to the temple. The Consult Ranjan team in collaboration with architect B. Kumaresan of Tumkar, India is designing the temple.

Unexpectedly, the Consult Ranjan team was confronted by a major servicing issue that affected access and the development of the site. Previous consultants had not secured approval for access and the City was prepared to permit only a right turn in and right turn out of the site at the intersection on Morningside. There could be no access to Neilson because of anticipated road reconstruction that would drop the grade of the road to a point where access to the site would not be possible. Limited ingress and egress to the site from Morningside was not a viable solution.

The tailor-made solution by Consult Ranjan was an internal service road to service the Temple. There would be one controlled intersection that would be redesigned to accommodate full access to the service road. Work continued on the approvals and design of the intersection improvements through the spring of 2011 and into 2012.
